EVALUATION: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

/ Monday, 13 May 2013 /
Before screening the video I created two questionnaires to hand out to the audience to find out their views on the production.
I had both an open and closed questionnaire so as to get specific results and some more in depth information about our final construction.

To gain audience feedback as a class we held a screening of all our work. To gain awareness for this we set up a facebook event, as it was a quick and simple way of inviting lots of people to come and watch.

I asked a few who attended to answer some questions on camera.

Results of the closed questionnaire were as follows:

Audience feedback has opened my eyes to some of the negative aspects of our project, it's something you as  a creator do not necessarily see as you are so immersed in your own work.
Something that screamed obvious through the open questionnaires was the issues we had with lip syncing, until it was pointed out to us I didn't really notice how the lip syncing wasn't working as well as the rest of the product. The match of time was spot on, but the way our actor sang was quite nervously and so the power of the song was not portrayed.

It is something we had little practise in, this and some issues with an actor meant we limited time and knowledge on how to do this and ideally we would have rerecorded it.

Another thing was the narrative, after explaining the storyline to people it became clear, and the fairytale aspects were well recognised, however I would have preferred if the whole plot was understood by everyone watching it and not just the majority.

However there were many elements I was pleased that the majority of the audience liked, for example the shot types, and although the narrative had some lack of understanding, all of the audience enjoyed watching it and would recommend the video to friends and in some ways that is more important.

Ancillary Task Update: Inside Cover 2

/ Monday, 18 March 2013 /
Second option for the inside cover.

I prefer this over the last one because she fills the page more and I much prefer her without the black blend part in the background.

I think there should maybe be some light grey production info on the inside cover too though.

Ancillary Task Update: Poster 2

I have added the year onto the banner after speaking to a couple of people for ideas on how to combat the empty section.

I like the minimilist look!

This one is also not quite finished.
I like the style of it and the banner however I have some issues:

  • I'm not sure what else to put on the banner as I know it looks incomplete in the top right of the poster. (I may just stretch out the text depending on how distorted it makes it look.)
  • I'm not sure whether to add a shop logo, my instinct was to add a HMV logo, however due to the recent events in which HMV has gone into administration I feel it would be inconsistent.

Ancillary Task Update: Inside CD Cover

/ /

Updated with new model photos.

Improvements:
  • I noticed the CD part of this wasn't completely circular in the last one, I've corrected this.
  • Chose a different photo for the CD side of the cover. I preferred that it was completely covered by the CD rather than bits either side.
  • Although the photo is the same idea for the left hand side as previous, I changed the way the model was sitting slightly so that she fit the size of the CD cover while not looking too small.

Ancillary Task Update: Front and Back CD Cover

/ /

This was pretty much finished anyway, however I had to retake the photographs due to a problem with our model/actress.

I have literally just retaken the exact same photographs with a new model.

Other improvements I've made include:
  • The production information being made smaller.
  • I've added the artists name.
  • Changed the album name to one word to make the layout look better.
  • Changed the font of this too.
I feel this is pretty much complete, though one I have all the ancillary tasks to this point I will get audience feedback and tweak them a little bit.

Music Video Progress

/ /

This is an up to date version of the music video, we still have a few more scenes to add into it and also integrate the performance part between the scenes you see here.

PHOTO SHOOT.

/ Friday, 15 March 2013 /
My second photo shoot for this project as I had to retake the photographs with a new model.
TOO MUCH HAIR!

TOO DARK

Too dark, also missed the glitter! Needed a faster shutter speed.

Perfect!

Checking the lighting

First time I caught the glitter but she also blinked!

We made a bit of a mess!

UPDATE: Filming Progress

/ Thursday, 14 March 2013 /
We have finished all filming!

THAT'S A WRAP!

We originally had planned to go back and re film the fight scene that was supposed to introduce the video before the music began, but after looking at what we have so far, and the footage we previously had of it, we're not sure how to make it usable, and we realise the narrative makes sense without it.

So we have cut the scene from the music video.

Construction: Update

/ Tuesday, 5 March 2013 /

So far, this is the shots of the music video that we have put together, the video shows the beginning, though we're not certain of adding another scene into the music or before it, and also at around 43 seconds the sequence ends and shows other scenes we had completed filming for but should come later in the song.

We have all but 2 sets of filming left to do, the performance scene which we had some issues with but seem to have resolved, I will go into more detail about this in another post after refilming.

We also have to reshoot the fighting/breakup scene as the way we filmed it included a mirror behind one of the actors and we aren't sure of how it looks, and the angle we decided to film at meant that the light from the window, though we shut the blinds was behind the actors creating a dull image.

By the end of next week we should have ALL of the shots finished and it will just be a case of fitting them together.

Digi Pak - Front and Back Cover

/ Wednesday, 27 February 2013 /

This is front cover of the album so far.

THINGS THAT NEED CHANGING:
Most obviously, due to circumstances with our actress we cannot use her as the artist and are having to reshoot a section of the video because of this, and this also means I will have to retake the photographs for these ancillary tasks, however they will be taken the exact same as the ones here but with a different person.

The credits text needs to be made smaller.

I need to add the artist name along side the album name.

This is the inside cover so far.

THINGS THAT NEED CHANGING:

Again obviously the photographs need to be of our new model.

I want to add something to the top right of the left half of the inside however when I retake the photos of the new model I will try one where she fits completely in the box at the same size, so her arms are less spread out, as well as retaking the one the same as this in case it doesn't work.

I want to add the song names in a spiral or at least a circle around the CD because I think it will look more complete.

UPDATE 12/02/13

/ Tuesday, 12 February 2013 /
This weekend we managed to get all three scenes we had planned to film done, looking back at the footage today I think we got some really great shots.

We had previously planned to film during the half term holidays so that we were completely finished and could concentrate on the ancillary tasks and editing the video together, however upon planning this, we realised that one of our actors with whom we need to film 3 more scenes is away the whole week, meaning we would have to use this week to film at least those three scenes.

So we went back to planning.
Again we hit a fault, peoples work schedules and on top of that I'm currently not at school because of an allergic reaction, so we will have to postpone until after the half term, postponing completed filming hopefully to only a week.
