Attracting Audience: Media Evaluation on Prezi
When attracting an audience the cover is the most vital, as it is the first thing the audience see and the same goes for the other music magazines, so the cover must stand out against those too.
On the cover of my magazine the bright colours are what make it different. They create a contrast to the other music magazines, which are usually aimed at a male audience and definitely not of the pop genre. The cover model looks directly at the camera and so seems to be looking at the reader, this creates attention. She also fits the stereotype of an attractive woman who other women want to look like, this hits the primary audience, however the model also attracts a secondary audience of men, as although the genre might not appeal to them they will find themselves attracted to the model.
The hooks are current, they also fit what people of the ‘pop’ genre will enjoy as well as this people who have only a slight interest in pop could also be attracted to buying this magazine, as there are many hooks giving it more chance that at least one of those will appeal to a potential reader. The contest on the front also attracts people as the chance to win tickets to a popular musician is appealing to the vast majority, even if it is only for a chance to win.
The magazine appeals to a niche audience, people who are interested in pop are the primary audience, and as many more women are interested in pop this shortens the audience too. However as mentioned earlier there is a secondary audience, males, as there are no other pop magazines really on the market this would be the only option that men would have if they wanted to buy a pop magazine.
The magazine would be advertised primarily on the internet, as the primary audience (girls aged 16+) are also primary users of the internet and social networking. Facebook having 51% of its 33 million users in the UK being women and over half of these being in the potential age group for the magazine it is a great opportunity to advertise. Twitter is another great place to advertise, although there are 64% male in the UK there are still a large amount of young females using the website.
Through Facebook and Twitter adverts can be targeted towards users who have ‘liked’ or ‘followed’ or even tweeted/ made facebook status’ about related things, for example; people who are in the magazine, other pop magazines, pop music, or even just music in general. There would also be a Facebook Page for the magazine with exclusive content as well as a twitter also providing exclusive material.
